Brú Power Plant was commissioned in 2020 and is the first hydropower plant owned and operated by HS Orka with a capacity of 9.9 MW. The plant is a run-of-river plant in the upper part of the Tungufljót river in Biskupstungur, in the section of the river that flows between the farms Haukadalur II and Brúar, above the road to Gullfoss.
The scope of Brúarvirkjun is relatively small and its location is suitable in terms of visual impact. The main dam of the plant lies across the Tungufljót river just above the confluence with Stóra-Grjótá. From there, the river is led through approximately 1700 meters of underground headrace tunnels to the powerhouse.
Brúarvirkjun is directly connected to the distribution network in Bláskógabyggð and the surrounding area, thus having a positive impact on the reliability of electricity supply for the local community.
